If you are concerned about rising energy bills and ways to reduce your energy use, then come along to a free Energy Saving Afternoon on Saturday 7 November, from 2pm to 5pm, at St Barnabas Church Hall, Grove Road, Emmer Green. The event will provide practical, independent advice on reducing energy costs, improving home energy efficiency and exploring renewable energy options.
With domestic fuel prices having recently increased and further rises predicted, the
event will help homeowners and tenants understand the range of options available to
reduce energy consumption and improve comfort at home.
The afternoon is being organised by ourselves at DraughtBusters, a volunteer-led Reading group, that provides free draughtproofing for households experiencing fuel poverty and energy-saving advice for all residents. Visitors will have the opportunity to discuss their own circumstances with experienced advisers and receive guidance tailored to their homes and needs.
Representatives from EnergySavers will also be attending to provide information
about available grants, free home energy visits and support in finding suitable
contractors for renewable energy installations.
What's on offer?
- Advice on carrying out a home energy audit and identifying cost-effective improvements
- Guidance on renewable energy technologies, including solar panels and heat pumps
- Opportunities to speak with local residents who have experience using renewable energy systems and smart tariffs
- Advice on reducing energy use in cooking and everyday household activities.
- Information on ventilation, condensation and maintaining a healthy home environment
- Details of available grants and support schemes.
- Registration for free home energy visits and, where eligible, free draughtproofing services

Practical DraughBusting Session
A special feature of the afternoon will be a guided walk-around of the
church hall and church at 3pm, led by experienced DraughtBuster Tony Cowling. Participants will learn how to identify common sources of heat loss and learn how to
implement practical draughtproofing solutions.
